I’m in the top 4.5% in the Shoot & Share 2019 Photo Contest?

PC2017-Insta-dark Shoot Share Badge 2019

Will the wonders never cease?

I received an email this afternoon telling me that one or more of my 40 photos that I submitted to the Shoot & Share 2019 Photo Contest was favorite-ed in Round 11. That means that I still have a chance to be a winner if I can make it all the way through Round 12 tomorrow!

I finally came across one of my photos in Round 11! Mine is the shot from the Orange County Fair.

The way this contest works is that it is “Completely Free and Fair”.

A lot of times photographers with a HUGE number of social media followers will tell their followers to go and vote for their photos in whatever contest they’ve entered. That gives people with HUGE influence a HUGE chance to sweep the contest. But, this photo contest is completely different. It is totally free, nobody has to pay to enter, and you don’t have to sell tickets to get more votes. Photographers can enter up to 50 photos into 25 different categories. My name is never displayed during voting so only people who closely follow my Instagram even recognize my photos. And even then, since I like to attend group shoot-outs, up to 12 photographers may have taken the same or similar photo. That means that “each photo is judged on its own merit and every photo is given equal opportunity to be voted on. It is displayed the same number of times to the voters as any other, so every photo is in the running.”

One of my friends saw my photo of cutie Journey in Round 11!

That means “It’s All About the Photos”

This is a super unique contest. As they say “It’s not about one photographers popularity vs. anothers or the ability to rally social media for votes. It’s not about your financial ability to pay for more entries to flood the photo pool.” Seeing my friends photos in the contest has been incredibly exciting, because I know how hard they work and they deserve the recognition.

Pink Square give me a second

I have terrible Imposter Syndrome, which means that I never feel like I’m measuring up. Can you imagine my surprise when I found out that I’m still in the running?  I’m super excited because even if I don’t win one of the prizes, just to know that my work was in the top 4.5% of the remaining 26,458 photos is such a big deal for me.

Someone loves me!

I’ve enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful work from other photographers. From People Portraits, to Weddings, to Landscapes and even a category for Phone Photos and 21 other categories, there has been so much talent and so much inspiration. This was my first year entering the contest and to know that my photos were getting voted on from a starting pool of 583,150 photos was so overwhelming. But every couple of days I would get an email that someone had favorite-ed one of my pics and it made my heart soar! To date my photos have been chosen as someones favorite 71 times. OMG, I’m just going to take a moment to let that sink in. I mean, most days I kind of like my photos a little but to know that other people cared enough to click on that little heart MEANS SO MUCH!!!

Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them but you know they're always there.

Learning to use my Nikon camera, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop has given me some serious challenges and sleepless nights. But, I’m so thankful for my group of photography friends who have been there for me when I get into a tight spot and need their sage advice. And I couldn’t have done it without my biggest cheerleaders by my side; my husband Phil and my kids, Savannah and Trevor. No matter what happens or what doesn’t happen for me in the contest, I’m so happy to have been a part of it and to be among such a tremendous group of talented photographers.

Thank you Pink Ombre

I’m so excited to have my photo of adorable actress and model Journey Christine published in the Winter 2018 issue of La Belle Kidz & Teen Fashion Magazine.  I’m filled with gratitude to have my photography featured in such a stunning publication and so thankful to La Belle Kidz for the opportunity.

Journey Christine is featured as a La Belle Fav Model and I’m so happy for her. I was lucky to meet five year old Journey Christine in September. After talking to her mom about my plan for the shoot I found the perfect dress from Biscotti and designed a Beyonce-inspired floral crown for Journey to wear. Not only is Journey absolutely adorable but she has the most charming personality. She flitted from tree to tree, like a precocious little pixie, in a gorgeous park in Pasadena, California and worked her magic for the camera. The results were stunning and I’m so thrilled for her continued success.

To learn more about Journey Christine, visit her on Instagram and see all of the incredible work she’s already done for Disney, Honda, Walmart, Kohl’s, Home Depot and other top companies.

My Dia de los Muertos Wedding Shoot is Featured on POPSUGAR!

It’s been an exciting couple of months around here and it’s been a real challenge to contain my excitement! Especially because I’m really terrible at keeping secrets!  First, I was published in a print magazine AND my team and I got the cover. Then, I found out my Dia de los Muertos photos were going to be featured on POPSUGAR as well!

I’ve been familiar with POPSUGAR for a while, especially because they had a really nice subscription box. But, they are so much more!  They’re a lifestyle website that “delivers the biggest moments, the hottest trends, and the best tips in entertainment, fashion, beauty, fitness, and food.”  How cool is that?

I’m still in love with this Dia de los Muertos shoot and just so thankful for the team of professionals that helped me bring it together. And now to find out that it’s featured on such an amazing website is a dream come true!

See the entire feature here!

I feel the deepest gratitude to this dedicated group of people who collaborated on this shoot with me! You can find all of them on Instagram:

On a cloudy and pale July morning we set out to capture images of the mysterious Lady of the Lake.

The warmth of Summer held us in its languid embrace and the wildness of the wetlands enveloped us in enchantment.

With a smoldering look and the hint of mystery in her eye, the Lady of the Lake withheld all of her secrets from us.

From the wetlands we moved on to a nearby pool and created magic as the sun rose hot and high in the sky.

I always love to see Behind the Scenes photos so I can see the scene from the perspective of someone else.

I’m so grateful to this team that I had the privilege of working with and especially thankful to Hair Stylist, Nicole Martin and Fashion Designer, Kasha Faye for inviting me to be a part of this collaboration. I’ve been officially published in a print magazine,  the August 2018 issue of Avant Garde Magazine, and I have this amazing team to thank! I feel so lucky to know so many talented artists and to be able to create this beautiful shoot, surrounded by a talented fashion designer, a hairstylist who transforms models tresses during New York Fashion Week and my friend, Emmy Award Winning Make Up Artist Margaux Lancaster, was a dream come true. The model, Nicole Fitzgerald, is a delightful soul and we recently got together to take some lifestyle and fitness shots of her and I can’t wait to share them!  And I feel so thankful that my husband, Phil Barker, came along on the shoot and was my photography assistant and runner. Thank you, everyone!

Magical Mermaid and Unicorn Shoot

“I want to be magic. I want to touch the heart of the world and make it smile. I want to be a friend of elves and live in a tree. Or under a hill. I want to marry a moonbeam and hear the stars sing. I don’t want to pretend at magic anymore. I want to be magic.”
― Charles de Lint

It’s not often that I’m invited to a Unicorn and Mermaid photo shoot but with a love for all things whimsical and magical I could only say yes!  The event was organized by Kaitlin Agee and Brooke Champlin on a beautiful day last August and it was so nice to see them again along with some photographers that I’ve met at other House of Flynn – California Tribe events.

Dia de los Muertos Photo Shoot

Yesterday I hosted my first styled photo shoot and I’m thrilled that everyone has been so enthusiastic about it. There are so many incredible shots of these beautiful models and it’s difficult to pick a favorite!

I couldn’t have done this event without the help of some amazing people and I’m so thankful for them!  The makeup was created by Drop Dead Gorgeous Artists and the models looked epic! Beautiful gowns were provided by fashion designer Kasha Faye Designs and gave the shoot an extra glam vibe. From cake to rings to flowers and all the other important details I was able to reach out to my friends for help and they really delivered!

For this shoot I put on my creative hat and designed the headdresses and hat, hand painted the grooms jacket, and wrote in calligraphy on the invitation envelopes. I came up with a concept for a succulent garden on the cake table and I’ll be sharing that in a future post.

To see more photos from this shoot from the other photographers go to #ddlmshoot2017 on Instagram.

Now it’s back to editing photos!
